Bond with Your Cat…

Any cat owner will tell you that cats can be difficult to bond with, especially if they’re older or have been neglected in the past. While it may seem like cats prefer to keep their distance, any cat can learn to enjoy and even rely on human contact! Here are 5 great ways to bond with your cat and make sure they’re always happy and healthy in your home.

1. Spend Time With Them

Spending time with your cat is an important part of bonding, so be sure you’re setting aside time for that. Sit down next to them while they sleep or eat, talk to them when you pet them, and take time out of your day to play fetch. If you live alone, you should definitely get a cat—it’s one of the best ways to fight loneliness.

2. Bond With Your Cat By Playing With Them

Playing with your cat is a great way to bond and keep them happy. Cats are very social animals, and even though they may seem aloof at times, they actually crave interaction from you. Playing will strengthen their relationship with you, as well as exercise their mind and body.

3. Create Routines

Cats like routines—for example, you feed them at certain times, play with them at others and walk them outside on a leash every morning. Establishing these routines helps bond you and your pet together. If you need to be away from home for an extended period of time, hire a pet sitter who will take care of feeding and other tasks on a regular schedule.

4. Set Boundaries

Make sure your cat knows what boundaries are. Cats can be curious and mischievous, so it’s important to establish limits. For example, if you want your cat off of certain furniture, don’t just push them off—explain that they shouldn’t be there. Cats respect owners who assert themselves as leaders of their pack, so it’s crucial to make it clear what they can and cannot do in order for you both to coexist happily.

5. Be Consistent

Cats are sensitive and they need consistency in their daily routine. Consistency is important because it helps your cat get accustomed to their environment and helps reduce anxiety and stress. Cats enjoy routine, even if it’s just getting fed or cuddled at a specific time every day. Create a predictable schedule for your cat that includes sleep, playtime, feeding and grooming time so they don’t feel bored or neglected. Consistency will help strengthen your bond with your pet over time too!

Now it’s time to go bond with your cat!
